Humble origins of the Waldauf salad

The beautiful wendish salad using apple cucumber vinegar is ,according to research I did some years ago, immortalized in the US Hotel which became famous for serving it ( the chef came from central europe, the nuts i am not sure) and the edition of Faulty Towers which highlighted some English ignorance of some very good things - what good can come from werben eh? I have asked mum to put the recipe up here .
